Ceftiofur hydrochloride is a third-generation cephalosporin specific to animals, which is mainly used to treat infectious diseases of pigs, cattle, horses, dogs, and one-day-old chicks caused by susceptible bacteria.

Cefthiofur hydrochloride can be rapidly decomposed into furoic acid and defuranoyl cefothifur, the latter is active in nature, can inhibit the cell wall synthesis of sensitive proliferative bacteria (third stage), and its antibacterial profile is similar to cefotaxime. Cefthiaf has a wide antibacterial range in vitro and is effective against many pathogens, including Pasteurella, streptococcus, staphylococcus, salmonella, E. coli and many other species.
