For over 150 years, cattle have been roaming the wide open pastures of Western Canada. Our operations are strategically located at the center of Canada's cow herd and the high quality barley that gives Western Royal Angus that distinctive taste. These ideal conditions, along with world-class genetics, set the stage for what we believe is amongst the best beef in the world.
Every beef cow in Canada carries a mandatory radio frequency identification tag that supports a national traceability system - the only one of its type in North America. Our national food inspection system is overseen by The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, a division of our federal government, that inspects every aspect of beef production to the highest standards. On the farm, the Verified Beef Program outlines the safety and welfare standards prescribed to all beef producers.
Ranching in Canada is a way of life. Most of the cattle we buy at Western are from small family farms with an average herd size of around 60 head. Young healthy animals come to us from our neighbours - people we know well and who share our same values. We are confident that from farm gate to plate, we have done everything possible along the way to guarantee you only the best, barley-fed beef available.
