VSFA has an Aeronautics Education Lab (AEL) sponsored by NASA's SEMAA (Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy) where campers can practice flight simulation. Campers also visit various operational facilities of NASA, NOAA, the US Navy, MARS and Orbital Sciences . They perform one- and two-stage model rocketry, implement a simulated rocket launch & explore robotics using Lego (c) Mindstorm (c) NXT systems. Campers also get to see Assateague Island, probably the most unspoiled barrier island on the East coast & home to the famous Chincoteague ponies. After hours, students may visit the many attractions on Chincoteague Island, including bumper boats, go-karts and miniature golf.
