The OCI Scheme, operational since December 2, 2005, greatly benefits individuals of Indian origin abroad. As of September 30, 2019, it exclusively serves as the valid travel document, eliminating the need for frequent Indian visa applications, simplifying travel. OCI cardholders can stay in India without time restrictions, making it ideal for those reconnecting with their heritage. This initiative, under Section 7A of the Citizenship Act of 1955, reflects India's commitment to strengthening global ties, recognizing the contributions of the Indian diaspora, and facilitating cultural connections.
