The 100G optic transceiver standard used for long-distance transmission is mainly 100GBASE-ER4. Its representative optic transceiver is 100G QSFP28 ER 4, and its maximum transmission distance can go to 40km. The working principle of 100G QSFP28 ER 4 optical transceiver is to convert 4x25Gbps electrical signals into 4 LAN WDM optical signals, and then use MUX or WDM to multiplex them into a single channel.

The HW QSFP-100G Compatible QSFP28 transceiver adopts 12 Fibers MTP/MPO connectors, reaching a link up to 150m over OM4 MMF (100m over OM3). This optical transceiver is compliant with QSFP28 MSA, IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-SR4 and breakout to 4x25GBASE-SR standard. Digital diagnostics functions are also available via the I2C interface, as specified by the QSFP+ MSA, to allow access to real-time operating parameters. With these features, this easy to install, hot swappable transceiver is suitable to be used in various applications, such as data centers, campus and computing networks, interconnections within and between switches, routers, NICs and transport equipment.
