It grows to a height of 12 meters, with a stout trunk, thicker at its base. It has strong and rigid leaves; bluish colour of around 1-2 meters wide. It can handle cold temperatures down to -20 degrees C. The inflorescences are spectacular; they extend out beyond the crown, reaching 2 meters in length with golden fruits. It’s a slow-growing palm, that’s why it’s difficult to create big specimens in plant nurseries.
