Description
Matna Foods Company Limited is a Nigerian manufacturing outfit, incorporated to process cassava roots into International Standard Food Grade Industrial Starch and allied products.
Matna Foods Company Limited, as an idea, was contrived and conceived by the duo of Chief Joseph Sanusi and a South Korean, the late Mr. T. W. Cho. They promoted and got the company registered in 1998, long before the commencement of the current Nigerian government initiative on cassava.
Ownership of the company has subsequently been expanded with the inclusion of other investors
In Nigeria, the blue-chip multinationals represent its major industrial end-users, procuring the food-grade starch for the manufacturing of household goods such as food seasonings, tooth pastes, beverages, mosquito coils and batteries.
The factory which is located at the heart of the cassava producing area of Akure in Ondo State of Nigeria commenced full production in 2002. It has since remained the undisputed leader in the Nigerian cassava industry.
In view of the short supply of cassava roots by the farmers, the company recently embarked on large scale mechanized cassava farming to complement the efforts of the farmers in meeting its raw materials needs.
The Ondo State Government of Nigeria was impressed by the efforts of the company at sourcing for raw materials. In demonstration of its commitment to supporting viable ventures that are doing the State proud, the Government therefore recently entered into a joint-venture agreement with the company to set up a 1, 000 hectare cassava farm under the name of Matond Farms Limited
