Rambutan is an exotic fruit and native to Malaysia and Indonesia, and now it´s producing in Sonusco area from Chiapas, Mexico.

The leathery skin is reddish (rarely orange or yellow), and covered with fleshy pliable spines, derived from the Malay word “rambutwhich” means hairs. The fruit flesh is translucent, whitish or very pale pink, with a sweet, mildly acidic flavor.

Flavor it´s though a close relative of the lychee and an equally desirable fruit.
