Basically, there are two main types of water heaters, namely:

2. Storage hot water systems

The storage water heater is the conventional type where the water is heated and stored in a tank for use. The heating elements have to keep reheating the water in the tank to keep it hot. As for the continuous flow systems, these are the ones referred to as tankless water heaters or instant water heaters. These models do not have a storage tank and are quite convenient as they produce hot water on demand.
