Product description

The Burren Ireland is a breathtaking natural attraction in western Ireland. Specifically, it is situated in the north western region of County Clare. The 250 square kilometer rocky jungle encompasses Kinvara, Tubber, Kilfenora, Corofin, Ballyvaughan, Lisdoonvarna, Fanore, Craggagh, Carron and Bellhabour. Generally, it is bound by Galway Bay to the north and the Atlantic to the west.

The word Burren comes from the Irish word ‘Boireann’ which means “great rock”. A perfect depiction of the rocky piece of earth. The Burren is a huge limestone landscape, without soil cover, with only some portion of it exposed. Owing to this rocky mound-like landscape which resembles the moon surface, some have described walking on it as walking on the moon. It really feels like walking on another planet other than earth.

The Burren has been christened “fertile rock” as rare plants have been observed to grow on the karstic landscape. The sight of a ‘rock garden’, that is, blossoming wild flowers and herbs growing between the rocks has led to the conclusion it has some fertile characteristics. Different species of insects have also been observed in the rocks.

The Buren is very accessible. Shannon Airport is the nearest airport to the Burren Ireland. It is 58km away therefore it will be a 49 minute journey. If you chose to you can come from Dublin, Ireland’s capital, though it’s a long journey; 221.1km which will take about 2 ½ hours.
