How is parquet flooring made?

Prestigious wood species are used in the production of parquet flooring. Traditionally these are oak, walnut, ash, beech and some exotic species such as olive, merbau and cocoa. These wood species can withstand extreme temperatures effectively and are highly resistant to moisture and rot. As far as dimensions are concerned, the standard parquet blocks are 15mm to 22mm thick, 200mm to 500mm long, and 50mm to 90mm wide.

The new solid wood parquet supplied to the UK is manufactured in the following stages:

Solid wood is sawn into planks.

The resulting blanks are placed in a kiln to dry the wood for almost a month.

At the end of the drying process, the fully dried boards are sorted. Boards with any defects are discarded.

The remaining boards are then cut into blocks or segments of the desired shape, all with the same dimensions.

The future parquet blocks then go through a milling process to cut out the necessary tongues and grooves.

The parquet floor is almost finished, now it's time to polish it thoroughly, removing the smallest surface imperfections.

Almost finished polished parquet blocks are given several coats of protective coatings (special lacquers and oils).
